A Look Inside Local Government: Zeeland Citizens Academy Recap

At Zeeland Board of Public Works, we believe that informed citizens help build stronger communities. That’s why we are so honored to be a part of Citizens Academy.

What is the Citizens Academy?

Hosted annually by the City of Zeeland, the Citizens Academy is a free six-week program that gives residents a behind-the-scenes look at how our local government works, including topics on public safety, city planning, and more.

Connecting With Community

This week, we had the opportunity to lead a session and share more about how Zeeland BPW operates. We discussed what goes into powering homes and businesses, how we manage water and electric services, and the ways we plan for a reliable, sustainable future. Plus, the cohort had the experience to ride up the bucket truck!

“Programs like the Citizens Academy strengthen the relationship between the city and its residents,” said Zeeland BPW General Manager Andrew Boatright. “It’s a great way for people to see the care and commitment that goes into serving this community every day.”

We loved connecting with community members, answering questions, and giving a closer look at the systems and people that keep Zeeland running smoothly. These conversations matter, and we’re always grateful for the chance to connect with the residents we serve.

Stay Tuned for Future Cohorts

If this sounds like something you’d enjoy being part of, keep an eye out for future cohorts. The Citizens Academy is typically held each summer, and we highly recommend it to anyone curious about the inner workings of our city.

We’re thankful to the City of Zeeland for inviting us to participate again this year, and we’re already looking forward to the next round.
